Founded in 2007 by members of the legal and risk management departments of Equity Residential – a leading provider of multifamily housing in United States. Team members are attorneys and claims specialists who have worked for years in the same fields they now manage/adjust claims and handle disputes- commercial, hospitality, multifamily.

Prior to forming Great Prairie Risk Solutions, Mr. Davis was a Vice President and in-house counsel at Equity Residential, one of the nation’s leading providers of multifamily housing. For 10 years, Mr. Davis directed the Company’s general liability and workers’ compensation programs, and managed premises liability claims and litigation asserted against the Company. In addition to working on claims and lawsuits, Mr. Davis was active in loss control and safety initiatives for the Company. Prior to joining Equity Residential in 1997, Mr. Davis was an attorney with French, Kezelis & Kominiarek, P.C. in Chicago, IL, concentrating his practice in premises liability and medical malpractice defense. Mr. Davis has been admitted to practice law in Illinois, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has appeared as counsel of record, pro hac vice, in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and South Carolina. He has also been cited in numerous articles on multifamily housing litigation and loss control.

Karen Sellers worked as a manager and paralegal for a small downtown Chicago law firm and as Administrator for a North Shore not-for-profit organization before joining Great Prairie in 2007. She brings additional years of experience from her work as Treasurer for several organizations, including a parent association and an Evanston philanthropic foundation.

Kate Sergeant provides program oversight, litigation management and outside counsel services to Great Prairie Risk’s clients. In 2011, she established Great Prairie Risk’s Florida’s office. Kate has been an attorney for over twenty years and during that time has been a practicing insurance defense attorney, an in-house counsel for a national non-profit organization and a complex claims adjuster. Through all of these experiences, Kate has developed a unique and effective approach to litigation management, loss prevention and claims handling. She also has broad knowledge of the various legal issues facing businesses, especially in the multi-family housing and hospitality arenas. Kate earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
